English teacher for children in Houston, TX

• Student: Child, age 7

• Location: Houston, Texas – Lockwood Road 

• Preferred start date: ASAP

• Lesson format: Face-to-face, in-person (any platform possible)

Details

• Availability: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings until around 3:00 pm

• Lesson Frequency: 3 times per week

• Lesson Duration: 30 minutes per session

• Current level: Beginner

• Native/other languages: Norwegian (native), Russian

• Goals:

  • Speak English fluently

  • Learn to read in English

  • Develop conversational confidence through playful, engaging lessons

  • Use a conversational approach where the teacher actively maintains dialogue

  • Apply vocabulary and grammar naturally during interaction

  • Explore topics of interest: role-playing, theatre, space, engineering, LEGO, nature, mechanisms, airplanes

Responsibilities

• Lead active, student-centered conversations rather than only exercises or multiple-choice tasks

• Encourage speaking and interaction aligned with child’s interests

• Adapt language input to child’s comprehension level

• Use playful, imaginative methods to make learning fun and effective

• Build reading, vocabulary, and grammar skills naturally through conversation

• Maintain engagement and motivation through age-appropriate activities

Qualifications

• Native or near-native proficiency in English

• Experience teaching young children, ideally with beginner English learners

• Ability to create dynamic, playful, and conversational lesson plans

• Skilled at adapting lessons to individual learner interests and needs
